Earlier this month we reported that the first PC flight for the original Halo would be arriving soon for those in insider Rings 1 and 2 external partners that work closely with Industries. For context, there are a handful of tricky UI, performance, and graphics issues that we need time to sort out before the flight can proceed. Fixed an issue where the Main Menu would not appear after passing the title screen when launching for the first time. The second timer was longer than we liked so we took the opportunity to add the option for this variant. As the hill spends less time in each location, players will spend a bit more time moving between hills, so it was important that we reduced the score to win slightly to match this. As a symmetrical map, Tempest is well-suited to 3-Plot Territories. In 4v4, this game type was already paired with this map and, after seeing some intense matches of it played in the recent Big Team Battle Throwback Throwdown tournament, we wanted to make it official for 8v8 as well. The range utility of the DMR makes it incredibly effective on some of the more open battlegrounds common in Big Team Battle.

Call of Duty server matchmaking problems are causing long wait times for Modern Warfare and Warzone players. Call of Duty down reports have been on the rise all day today. We’ve also seen increased reports of players also experiencing Call of Duty Server queues. A Solution To Evolve High Ping Has Finally Been Found

We first looked at Evolve late last year when the game was still in its alpha phase, finding a new take on the team-based multiplayer shooter that felt fresh and fun to play, built upon the first multi-platform outing we’d seen for the powerful CryEngine middleware. However, while graphics and gameplay shaped up rather nicely, the experience was hit heavily by server issues and inconsistent matchmaking, leading to extremely long waiting times between matches, not to mention irksome disconnections during play.

Three months on, the Evolve beta test is intended to allow for last-minute balance and gameplay tweaks before launch, in addition to large-scale testing of netcode optimisations made since the alpha.

In fact, in many ways, feedback and community flighting will be even more important after launch as we partner together to continually evolve.

In multiplayer video games , matchmaking is the process of connecting players together for online play sessions. Playlists are automatically-managed streams of online play sessions that players can join and leave at will. A set of predefined rules is used to determine the configuration of each session without the need for human input. Games will normally offer a choice of themed playlists e.

Since playlists are handled by servers controlled by the game’s developer it is possible for them to be changed over time. When a player selects a playlist they join a pool of other people who have made the same choice. The playlist server then either connects them to an existing session or creates a new one. Parties are groups of players who are treated as a single entity by matchmaking systems.

Lobbies are menu screens where players can inspect the upcoming game session, examine the results of the last, change their settings, and talk to each other. In many games players return to the lobby at the end of each session. In some, players joining a session that has already started are placed in the lobby until the start of the next. As lobbies consume very few resources they are sometimes additionally used as a “holding pen” for players while a suitable host for the coming session is found.

Thanks to Valve, Dota 2 players that take their rank seriously have a chance to stop seeing blue. The rank disparity seems to go both ways: high-skill players smurf in lower matches for entertainment or education, and low-skill players buy higher-level accounts. Even players using smurfs in lower accounts can feel accomplished if their higher-level team carries them to victory. Already, though, criticism has arisen about the obstacles that the system creates for aspiring professional players.

Dota 2 players are hoping for the same results. Some are concerned that the phone system isolates players in much poorer regions. I’m sitting on the train, en route to the 2K offices in Sydney’s Pyrmont, caught between the thrill of competition and the fear of fatigue. It’s the two dominant thoughts that emerge whenever I think about Evolve these days; the upcoming asymmetrical shooter from Turtle Rock Studios, a team that has developed a knack for multiplayer after working on the iconic Left 4 Dead series.

Evolve’s delay from October last year to February 10 was upsetting, even though it was to avoid getting crowded out by the rush of AAA games flooding to market in the months before Christmas. That was the official line, although it’s hard to see how Evolve’s unique brand of gameplay, which resembles a small-scale raid from an MMO in many ways, would have been challenged by the likes of Civilization: Beyond Earth , The Evil Within, Sunset Overdrive or anything that launched in October.

But the growing question has been not whether Evolve will be fun – I had no doubt about that after EB Expo and sitting amongst the red lights and lavish Alienware PCs in 2K’s Pyrmont offices, I have no doubt still – but whether the repeated intensity of battling the likes of the Goliath and the Kraken will be too much. The fundamentals of Evolve were unchanged in my build: the hunters are split into four classes Medic, Assault, Trapper, Support with individual characters offering alternative loadouts.

The solo player picks the monster of his choice – Wraith, Goliath and the Kraken, although the Behemoth will become available in post-launch DLC – and a starting perk, ranging from faster movement, reduced cooldowns and a better smelling distance. Since its first outing, the combinations of playable monster and hunters have grown significantly but each match, whether it be the one-off Skirmish mode or the five-match long Evacuation game, remains a cat-and-mouse affair.

The hunters want to find the monster within the first or second stages of evolution, while the monster relies on smell, sneaking and bursts of movement to buy time. My preview build came with all the perks and characters unlocked, but players will have to level up their initial offerings in-game before any customisations become available. The perks can be incredibly valuable and temporary bonuses can be found amidst the wildlife, although only the Monster can benefit from the latter.

Playing as the Wraith, Kraken and Goliath, my strategy remained the same: play keep-away with the most damaging, longest range attack in my arsenal until the second stage of evolution.

With the advent of Resident Evil 3’s large multiplayer offerings, asymmetrical online games may finally become a trend among mainstream gaming. After announcing the end of support for Evolve two years ago, 2K and Turtle Rock finally release a timeline of important end of life dates and what players can expect. The next round of free games for Xbox Live Gold members in March have been announced, and the list includes co-op shooter Evolve and Borderlands 2.
